Our General Manager Serdar Marangoz told Platin Magazine about our company's innovative and productivity-enhancing investment projects.

Our General Manager Serdar Marangoz told Hasan Kuş about Aydem Renewables’ innovative and efficiency-enhancing investment projects in energy production in the news study "Diversity and Efficiency in Production Increases with Innovative Investments" published in Platin Magazine.

Aydem Renewables, Turkey's company with the largest portfolio consisting solely of renewable resources, produces electricity in four regions of Turkey: Black Sea, Marmara, Mediterranean, and Aegean, through renewable energy production from 20 hydroelectric, 3 wind, 1 geothermal, and 1 hybrid solar power plant (SPP). The total installed power of the company has reached 1,180 MW with 25 renewable power plants. Aydem Renewables General Manager Serdar Marangoz, explaining that they aim to increase the installed power to 1,800 MW by the end of 2025, said, 'We plan to complete the permission processes for our investments this year. At the same time, we aim to add to our installed power with our 500 MWh battery facility, to be realized within the scope of our storage production facility investments.”

$160 Million Investment was Made

Aydem Renewable Energy made a total investment of 160 million dollars from the 3rd quarter of 2021 to the end of 2023. Pointing out that they continue their investments uninterruptedly this year, Marangoz stated that the focus of the investments in 2024 is to increase the efficiency of the existing power plants. In this context, the company started work to make the sites more efficient. Initially, 5 turbines with a power of 1.5 MW in the most efficient areas of the power plant in Uşak will be replaced with new technology turbines with a power of 6 MW. The work for the installation of these turbines is still in progress and will be completed in 2024."

L-REC Certification Provides Advantage

One of the areas in which Aydem Renewables is active is the International Renewable Energy Certificate (L-REC). Green energy certificates are extremely important for proving and certifying that the energy consumed comes from renewable sources. The company has submitted 3 million L-REC renewable energy certificates in the last three years. Aydem provides approximately 30 percent of the L-REC certificates created due to hydroelectric power plants in Turkey. 'Thanks to these certificates, exporters can benefit from carbon emission tax exemptions or discounts applied to the products they export. It also provides a significant advantage in terms of finance, marketing, and reputation,' Marangoz said.

Hybrid Projects

Undoubtedly, renewable energy sources are affected by climatic conditions. In this sense, the diversity of energy sources and backup systems gain importance. Aydem also focused on systems that back each other up. The focus is on power plants that can produce energy from solar power plants (SPPs) when there is little rain and from hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) when there is little sun, including panels to be installed on dams. Uşak Hybrid SPP, Turkey's largest hybrid solar power plant with an installed capacity of 82.15 MW, was commissioned last year. In addition to the moving system that follows the sun, maximum production is achieved thanks to the panel technology that provides energy production with light reflected from the snow on the ground, especially in winter, resulting in 20% more energy production compared to standard solar power plants. Marangoz said, "With the energy we produce here, we reduce 106,305 tons of CO2 emissions annually. This amount is equal to the emissions absorbed by 259,000 red pine trees," and added, "While the hybrid solar power plant is an indicator of our innovation in the sector with both its installed power and technological infrastructure, it has contributed 8% to our total installed power."
